Scenic Lookouts in Fulton County,
Pennsylvania
by Eldon Martin
Updated 03-23-06
There are plenty of places in Fulton County to enjoy the beauty of
God's creation, but if you'd like an extra helping, check out these
spots. Take your camera along!
The
Tuscarora lookout
I'm
not sure if this
scenic area is in Fulton or Franklin county, but it is only a short
drive from McConnellsburg. Take route
30
east to the top of the mountain and turn left on Aughwick road across
from
the Mountain House. Go just under a mile and bear right on Tower road.
About 1.7 miles back you'll come to a "Y", at which you can
turn
either way; they both arrive at the same place. You'll need to leave
your vehicle and walk about 50 yards to the edge of the cliff.
The
Sideling Hill lookout
To
get to this one from McConnellsburg, take route 30 west through
Harrisonville and to the top of Sideling hill. As
soon as
you
top
the mountain, turn left on Bark Road. The road splits about
3/10
of a mile back - stay to the left. The lookout is on the left
about 1.7 miles back, and about 40 yards from the edge of the road.
There's a convenient parking area on the right. Cliff Trail,
which crosses the road about 1/10 of a mile before the parking area,
also leads to a similar lookout, but with less visibility.
Do you know about another scenic lookout in the area? Send me an email
with directions, and we'll post it here.
